Hey there! Welcome to Clann. We are a UK-based platform designed to help you trade the career connections you have for the ones you want.
Because you trust us with your information (and information about your family or network), we want to be completely honest and clear about how we use it. No confusing legal jargon here—just the facts.
1. Who are we?
We are Clann (referred to as "we", "us", or "our"). We act as the 'Data Controller' for your information, which just means we are responsible for keeping your data safe and deciding how it's used.
2. What info do we collect?
To make Clann work, we collect a few pieces of information from you:
Your Details: Your name, email address, age/date of birth (to make sure you are between 16 and 22), and what you are studying or interested in.
Your "Clann" Connections: Information about the industries, sectors, or jobs that your parents, family, or family friends work in, so we can help you trade these connections. (Note: Please make sure your family members are happy for you to share what industry they work in!)
Tech Stuff: Like your IP address, browser type, and how you use our website or app (collected via cookies) to make sure everything works smoothly.
3. Why do we need your info?
Under UK law, we need a "lawful basis" to use your data. Mostly, we use your info because you’ve asked us to provide a service, or because it's in our "legitimate interests" to run Clann safely. Here is exactly what we do with it:
To set up your account and let you pre-register.
To match you with other students based on the connections you want and have.
To send you updates about Clann or responses to your questions.
To keep the platform safe, secure, and free from spam.
4. Who do we share your data with?
We hate spam as much as you do. We will never sell your data to advertisers. We only share your data with:
Other Clann Users: When we find a match, we will share relevant details (like what connection you're offering or looking for) so you can connect.
Our Tech Providers: Trusted companies that help us host our website, send emails, or keep things secure. They only use your data under our strict instructions.
The Law: Only if we are legally forced to by the police or a court.
5. Where do we keep your data?
Because we are UK-based, we securely store your data in the UK or Europe whenever possible. If any of our tech providers store data outside of the UK, we make sure they use extra-tight security measures approved by UK regulations.
6. How long do we keep it?
We only keep your information for as long as we need it to provide you with Clann's services. If you decide to delete your account, after a period of 12 months, we will erase your personal details from our systems. We keep you in our systems for this length of time so that in the event you change your mind within 12 months of cancelling we can reinstate all of your information.
7. Your Rights (You’re in control)
Because you live in the UK, you have strong rights over your data. You can ask us to:
Show you what information we have about you.
Fix any mistakes in your information.
Delete your information entirely.
Stop sending you emails or marketing messages.
